Wimbledon Introduces Video Replay Technology in 2025.

Wimbledon court with video review technology

Wimbledon will follow the US and Australian Opens in implementing video review systems.

Video review technology will be launched at The Championships for the 2025 edition.

Players will gain the option to question particular calls from the chair umpire, following the practice currently in operation at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.

This technology will be accessible on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are hosting singles matches.

This move arrives only a season following the All England Club rolled out ELC, which brought an end to the longstanding tradition of line judges.

Scope of Challenges

Competitors cannot to dispute the call of the ELC system, but are allowed to ask for the official to review other decisions, such as:

  • If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a shot made contact with an rival's racket or body on the way past.
  • Potential interference at the conclusion of a rally.

Notably, there is an unlimited number on the amount of reviews a player can ask for.

A Recent Example

A recent case took place in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against Jack Draper.

The British player conceded it was a tough call for the official, but thought his rival had "used the regulations quite well."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and ruled the player was guilty of hindrance, awarding the rally to Medvedev.

Broader Adoption

This technology aren't new for Grand Slams. It has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have the system implemented at all of its tournaments.

Other Changes

Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the addition of visual indicators on displays to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.

This addresses instances where spectators have sometimes been unsure if a ball was out or in.

Finally, with precisely a century of days to go until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have also revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
